I don’t know very many people who don’t like Tex Mex food. Crunchy, cheesy goodness is hard not to like, which is why I was so excited when we stumbled upon the Blue Moon Mexican Cafe in Engelwood, NJ. Not a native to the Engelwood area, I was walking along what seemed to be the main street in town, looking for a place to eat. There were tons of restaurants around, but for some reason the Blue Moon caught my eye. Even from the outside, the restaurant looks festive and welcoming.
With outdoor seating, fun Margaritas specials, and music playing in the background, the atmosphere is fun and casual and the food follows that tone. They offer a large menu with everyone’s Tex Mex favorites as well as a few Blue Moon specialties. While looking over the menu, you can munch on the chips, which are served warm and fresh (and free!) with spicy salsa. But don’t fill up on the chips because the portions at this place are enormous!
I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Burrito, which was definitely more Tex than Mex, and it did not disappoint. It was cheesy, saucy, a little bit spicy, and stuffed full with juicy chunks of chicken, avocado and corn. This is definitely a fork and knife burrito, but dipped in Blue Moon’s guacamole, it was exactly what I had been craving. I can also say that the burrito I ordered is not the only delicious item on the menu. Other entrees I tasted include the Fajita Moon Burrito, Seafood Quesadilla, and the Jungle Chicken, none of which I have any complaints about whatsoever! For such large portions, prices were also reasonable. All in all, a great, casual restaurant if you’re really hungry and looking for some good Tex-Mex at a reasonable price.
