I’ve been in kind of a slump/funk lately. If there is such a thing as a quarter life crisis, it’s very possible that I am going through one. My thoughts seem to take discouraged, negative, fearful paths quite frequently and it sometimes takes quite an effort to redirect them.

However, even though sometimes it’s very hard to stop the negative thinking that can go on in my head, I’ve discovered that counting my blessings can really help. It’s not a new concept really, but I’ve been trying hard to focus on the MANY good things in my life, rather than the few bad things. Why is it that sometimes it feels as though the bad things seem to outweigh the good? That’s another negative lie.

I was recently inspired by a friend of mine to make a list of things I am thankful for. She started posting a daily “thankful” status on facebook, in which she lists a couple things that she is thankful for each day. I look forward to reading her daily status updates, because sometimes reading them, I remember to be thankful for something that I had otherwise forgotten about! It’s been a wake up call to me to start thanking God for the blessings in my life because I don’t do it nearly enough. So, here is a list of things I am thankful for today. It is not comprehensive. If it were, the list would be never ending. These are just some of the things that came to mind as I wrote this post.

1. The vibrant orange color of my clementine this morning

  1. I love this post! It makes me want to do the same and make a list of all the good things around me. I have been dealing with depression for a while now and know how important it is not to let yourself get stuck thinking of negative things. Thank you so much for posting this!

  2. Thanks Liv. We all get stuck every now and then. Don’t give up, you can definitely overcome what you’re going through! Thinking about all the things we have to be thankful for is a huge part of that. Thanks for stopping by and for the comment!

  3. tam has been posting these lists on fb and she was inspired by one of my bffs from college who was doing it before that. love seeing these lists and love how it can be such an inspiring idea and it seems like it’s been really catching on (at least among quite a few ppl!). love you and steph and i for one am thankful for you! <3

  4. I do this every night! I have a small notepad and I challenge myself to write 10 things I have noticed today that made me happy (one today will be seeing the snow on the trees in the sun!). It helps me realise that the world is full of good things. I do also allow myself to feel bad though, I write three things that have made me feel bad, today one shall be how my brother ignored my greeting this morning. Once its written, its done, its out and gone!
