If you know me, you know how much I love to eat. Food is an integral part of almost everything I do. This is one of the reasons my fiance (now husband – ah!!!) and I picked Greece as our honeymoon destination. Throughout the wedding planning process, my wedding freak outs, and dieting to fit into the dress,  the thought of myself sitting on a Grecian beach with the Mediterranean breezes blowing through my hair, eating fresh bread, juicy olives, and grilled lean meat kept me sane! I knew I was in for some good food, as long as I could just get through the wedding. However, when we arrived in Greece, the food turned out to be even better than the pictures my imagination could conjure up.

Whether it was the fact that we were in such a beautiful country, or the fact that I had just made it through one of the most stressful events in my life (the wedding) OR the fact that the food really is just that good, by the end of the trip I concluded that the Greek’s knew how to do food right, that they had some hidden secret for making everything taste so good. Feast your eyes on some of the best food I’ve had the pleasure of eating:

Top Picture: These fried meatballs were delicious! The second picture was the first meal we had in Greece. It was a wonderful welcome present :). I think my favorite part was the Avocado and Sea Bass served with cous cous.

If you ever go to Greece you will always be served some sort of spread to put on your bread, usually along with fresh olives or olive oil and vinegar. Many places served this Olive Tapenade. If you don’t like olives, you may change your tune if you go to Greece.

The above photo was quite possibly my favorite meal of the whole trip. The Camembert Cheese was so incredibly soft and salty, and the shrimp risotto was everything a risotto should be – creamy, rich with a taste of the ocean in the background. Greek food is all about individual ingredients. They don’t use a lot of complex flavors, but the simplicity is what is so beautiful about it. It allows you to focus on the freshness and taste of each ingredient.

Similar in taste to Baklava, but the texture’s very interesting. Sweet and stringy. Very fun dessert!

The Greek’s have figured out every way to prepare cheese! Fried, Grilled, or Melted over something, however you order it – it’s always fresh and delicious!

I couldn’t resist putting two pictures of Grape Leaves in. This traditional Greek dish is usually served as an appetizer or starter and is definitely one of my favorites! Salty and stuffed with rice, dip them in tzasiki sauce and they become the perfect little bite.

Greece’s traditional Liquor – Ouzo & little packages of baklava!

Be prepared to drink a lot of shots of Ouzo – Restaurants serve it as an aperitif, or after dinner drink. Some forms are very sweet, but the pure, traditional Greek Ouzo is strong and very distinct.

The veggies were sliced paper thin and marinated in a simple mixture of olive oil and lemon. It was a very refreshing treat after a walking around Athens in the middle of the summer. The second dish pictures had all the flavors of a Greek salad without the lettuce – the tomato, the feta, the simple vinaigrette. Both dishes were light and flavorful.
