Saint Lucia is a seriously beautiful country. The island has the white sand beaches and sparkling blue water that the Caribbean is famous for, but it also boasts magnificent mountains (like their famous Pitons), volcanoes and rainforests. It’s diversity makes it the perfect island for anyone, offering plenty of adventure for risk-seekers and adrenaline junkies, but also plenty of beautiful beaches for those that just want to relax. Locals are friendly and welcoming and there are many opportunities for visitors to get a real taste of local culture during their stay, either by trying the famous island roti from street or beach vendors, or by visiting Anse La Raye on Friday night for the weekly fish festival. I was lucky enough to spend a few blissful days on this unique, diverse island in September. My only regret is not staying longer. (more…)
I am a beach person. I want to be anywhere there is sand, sunshine and salt water. I’ve been to some really amazing beaches including beaches in Costa Rica, Southeast Asia, Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, but it’s hard for me to pick a favorite because each beach is special in it’s own right. The beaches in Thailand have an exotic feel to them. Thai fishing boats are scattered along the sand and you can see some really amazing (and dangerous) sea life as well. The beaches of Hawaii are beautiful, obviously, and many of them have the backdrop of mountains and volcanoes. Beaches in the Caribbean are famous for the fine, white sand and the crystal, clear water. There are surfing beaches, snorkeling beaches, and beaches made for relaxation. I can’t pick a favorite because they all speak to me in different ways but the beaches of Cococay in the Bahamas are definitely high on my list. (more…)
Believe it or not my favorite place to eat at the Jersey shore is not a seafood joint. Most people really look forward to the fresh seafood when eating at the beach but my favorite beach restaurant happens to be a casual little restaurant that serves up Mexican and Tex Mex food. Ever since we moved to New Jersey, my family has been taking summer vacations in Wildwood. I have eaten at numerous restaurants there, some fancy, some casual and dinner at Bandanas Mexican Grille is still the meal I look forward to the most. The festive atmosphere and the delicious food keep me coming back each summer. And, by the way, I’m not a dessert person but the dessert here is FANTASTIC.
Matt and I recently returned from a week in Maui with Matt’s family. The week went by way too quickly, as all vacations tend to do, and now it’s back to our jobs/lives/errands in Jersey. Maui is absolutely beautiful. You MUST go. Add it to your bucket list. I have been to Oahu and Kauai as well, and Kauai is probably my favorite because of the untouched beaches and the natural feel of the island. However, Maui was a close second. We snorkeled, jumped off cliffs (eek!), read on the beach, hiked to a waterfall, and of course, ate some pretty amazing food. Here are some highlights and favorite moments from my trip:
If your ideal vacation consists of staying in a five star resort, relaxing on a white sand beach sipping a fruity cocktail with the crystal clear turqoise water of the Caribbean lapping at your feet, then Punta Cana is your destination. Although there are many beautiful islands throughout the Caribbean, Punta Cana is THE place for all inclusive five star resorts. Not only are they a dime a dozen, but the prices are usually the best in the Caribbean. This was my second visit to Punta Cana, and you can be sure I will be back. (more…)
Sooo sorry I have been MIA for awhile. I was on vacation, which I will be posting about soon. Just know it was somewhere warm, and I spent the majority of my time on a beach with a pina colada or stuffing my face at one of the many resort restaurants (more details to come). (more…)
I love the beach. And I love Maggie (my puppy). So I jumped at the chance to bring her to the beach. Since it’s off season right now, I planned to bring her to the regular beach and walk her on-leash. It’s a good thing I didn’t do this, because we found out that dogs are not allowed on the beach/boardwalk after April (at least in Manasquan. I haven’t checked with other beaches). Before we left our apartment, Matt decided to look online and see if there were any off-leash beaches for dogs. So, using trusty google search, we came across this website, http://www.bringfido.com/, and found a dog beach in Manasquan that looked promising. We decided to give it a whirl. (more…)
My family and I venture to Wildwood, NJ almost every summer for a little bit of sun, fun, relaxation, and of course, some great food. Since I have been to Wildwood oh, about 20 times, I thought I had exhausted all the food possibilities in the area. However, there are 2 special restaurants that stick out in my mind. (more…)
If you know me, you know how much I love to eat. Food is an integral part of almost everything I do. This is one of the reasons my fiance (now husband – ah!!!) and I picked Greece as our honeymoon destination. Throughout the wedding planning process, my wedding freak outs, and dieting to fit into the dress, the thought of myself sitting on a Grecian beach with the Mediterranean breezes blowing through my hair, eating fresh bread, juicy olives, and grilled lean meat kept me sane! I knew I was in for some good food, as long as I could just get through the wedding. However, when we arrived in Greece, the food turned out to be even better than the pictures my imagination could conjure up.
Whether it was the fact that we were in such a beautiful country, or the fact that I had just made it through one of the most stressful events in my life (the wedding) OR the fact that the food really is just that good, by the end of the trip I concluded that the Greek’s knew how to do food right, that they had some hidden secret for making everything taste so good. Feast your eyes on some of the best food I’ve had the pleasure of eating: (more…)
There are few things in life that are as fantastic as advertisers make them seem and usually everything looks better in the magazines than it does in real life. The clothes look better on the model, the food looks more fresh in the advertisment, and the vacation spot looks nothing like it did in the commercial.
So when I planned my vacation to the Dominican Republic I braced myself for that feeling of slight disappointment when you realize it doesn’t exaclty look like it did on their website. I’ve experienced this feeling numerous times before, so it has almost become the norm for when I’m booking a trip. I know that not everything will be as perfect as it seems but in this case, I was wrong. (more…)
