Cayman the culinary island

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted but I’m sure you all have been busy with Thanksgiving and the Holiday season coming up! However, that’s not the only reason for my lack of posts. I’ve been in the Cayman Islands recently! I stumbled upon a groupon for the Sunshine Suites on Grand Cayman in the Seven Mile Beach area and decided I could really use a vacation. I spent a week soaking up some sun and enjoying some much needed relaxation. Seven Mile Beach is world renowned for it’s beauty. The beach is made up of fine white sand, and water so crystal clear you can see straight to the bottom. I was expecting to enjoy the beauty of the island, but what I wasn’t expecting was the wide variety of amazing food that awaited me. Grand Cayman is truly and island fit for foodies. The unique, fresh and flavorful dishes made for a wonderful vacation. Here’s a sneak peak of my vacation in the Cayman Islands, at least the food aspect of it. (more…)

Punta Cana Paradise

If your ideal vacation consists of staying in a five star resort, relaxing on a white sand beach sipping a fruity cocktail with the crystal clear turqoise water of the Caribbean lapping at your feet, then Punta Cana is your destination. Although there are many beautiful islands throughout the Caribbean, Punta Cana is THE place for all inclusive five star resorts. Not only are they a dime a dozen, but the prices are usually the best in the Caribbean. This was my second visit to Punta Cana, and you can be sure I will be back. (more…)

A day at the dog beach

I love the beach. And I love Maggie (my puppy). So I jumped at the chance to bring her to the beach. Since it’s off season right now, I planned to bring her to the regular beach and walk her on-leash. It’s a good thing I didn’t do this, because we found out that dogs are not allowed on the beach/boardwalk after April (at least in Manasquan. I haven’t checked with other beaches). Before we left our apartment, Matt decided to look online and see if there were any off-leash beaches for dogs. So, using trusty google search, we came across this website, http://www.bringfido.com/, and found a dog beach in Manasquan that looked promising. We decided to give it a whirl. (more…)

Airplane Essentials

airplane 1

As a frequent flyer, I’ve found that there are a few items that really come in handy on an airplane. It always makes me laugh when someone refers to their “long flight” from New Jersey to California. 5-6 hours does not constitute as long. After spending most of my childhood flying back and forth, literally to the other side of the world, from Bangkok to New York, anything under 8 hours is a walk in the park. However, whether it be a short or long flight, there are items that every traveler should bring with them. Whether it be an actual necessity, someting to pass the time with, or something designed to enhance comfort, these are the things I bring on an airplane whenever I travel anywhere (short or long). Pros & Cons of All Inclusive Vacations

Jamaica 1

The first all Inclusive vacation I ever went on was spring break, senior year of college. I wasn’t sure about it at first, to be honest, but my roommates really wanted to go the all inclusive way so I decided to hop on board.

All inclusive vacations are awesome. They really are. If you want to go to a beautiful resort (most likely in the Caribbean) and sit on a white sand beach, and if you don’t really care to venture off at all, and are just looking to relax and eat and drink all day, then I absolutely recommend an all inclusive vacation.

However, even though I have a few all inclusive vacations under my belt, there are some pros and cons you should know about before you decide what type of vacation you are looking for. (more…)

The Travel Itch

Hawaii

I am grateful for the many opportunities I’ve had throughout my life to travel (19 countries at the age of 24 isn’t so bad). I’m even more grateful that I’ve been blessed enough to have actually lived in 3 of these amazing countries, and multiple regions throughout. However, sometimes I wonder if traveling so much has done me a disservice, because for me, there is no such thing as too much travel. (more…)

Five Influential Trips I Took

thailand 1

1. Thailand. I don’t know if this counts as a trip or not. Technically, it was my home for 12 years, but every visit I make back to the place I grew up influences me in a different way. I am in love with and inspired by this country. It is never the same and always the same. It’s a land of paradoxes and the culture, the people, the sites, and the food have helped to shape who I am today.

Unique Eats on the Jersey Shore

empanada

My family and I venture to Wildwood, NJ almost every summer for a little bit of sun, fun, relaxation, and of course, some great food. Since I have been to Wildwood oh, about 20 times, I thought I had exhausted all the food possibilities in the area. However, there are 2 special restaurants that stick out in my mind. (more…)

A place that looks just like the pictures

DR 1

There are few things in life that are as fantastic as advertisers make them seem and usually everything looks better in the magazines than it does in real life. The clothes look better on the model, the food looks more fresh in the advertisment, and the vacation spot looks nothing like it did in the commercial.

So when I planned my vacation to the Dominican Republic I braced myself for that feeling of slight disappointment when you realize it doesn’t exaclty look like it did on their website. I’ve experienced this feeling numerous times before, so it has almost become the norm for when I’m booking a trip. I know that not everything will be as perfect as it seems but in this case, I was wrong. (more…)
